But before you place that script in an envelope, and believe you’re done learning how to write a screenplay, here are a few tips to help you rewrite your screenplay to make it professional, marketable and the best script it can be.
Tip 1 Don’t do anything
I know. You’ve just typed “fade out” and you’re ready to go. But I would offer it’s good to wait a month, or at least two weeks, before you start rewriting.
Why? Because you’re too close to the material. You’ll be focusing on the little things-grammar, dialogue-when you should be working on building emotion and conflict. So take a break, and put the script in the drawer for awhile.
Many professional writers do just this very thing to ensure they don’t “fix” something that isn’t broken and keep from getting overly frustrated.
Tip 2 Cut the first 5 pages
But you need those pages, five finger shoes , right? They are crucial to setting character and setting and…blah blah blah.
I will bet you five dollars you don’t need it. Don’t believe me…give the script out, without the first five pages. If nobody notices, you don’t need it. (It’s one of the biggest mistakes writers make when learning how to write a screenplay.)
The truth is most writers do a lot of “throat clearing” in those beginning pages. Get right to the point. (Remember, readers want to know what’s going on. So let them do a little sleuthing.)
Tip 3 Focused Drafts
Instead of rewriting from fade in to fade out, I like to take a pass at the script numerous times-but with a very focused intent on each rewrite. (It’s one of the hardest things I had to get when learning how to write a screenplay.)
So…maybe I’ll do a rewrite where I focus on nothing but spelling. Another…scene description. Maybe another will be pushing conflict. While another handles dialogue.
Then I’ll do a rewrite for each major character. Maybe I’ll try to add some symbolic images subtly.
After doing 10-20 of these-with very clear goals-it will help me stay on track, jordan high heels , and make sure I cover everything.

Universal’s DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track isn’t hindered by anything other than the age of its elements. Growing up in Baltimore watching Captain Kangaroo and Sesame Street, Kevin dreamed of becoming a puppeteer and started creating his own puppets and performing shows for local kids. Its the story of a kid who dreamed big, worked hard at his craft, got a Willy Wonka-like invite into the Muppet Studios from Jim Henson himself, and went on to create one of the most famous characters in The Muppets universe.
Being Elmo might be a by-the-numbers biopic, but the journey is very enjoyable — especially for anyone who grew up watching The Muppets or Sesame Street. The film parallels the rise of Jim Henson and The Muppet movies, and gives us a behind the scenes peek into that world as it was being created. I’m a huge Muppet fanatic, and this film does not disappoint. We get to see outtakes, behind the scenes footage, and interviews with the other puppeteering greats like Frank Oz and Caroll Spinney.
There are sequences in this film which show just how much artistry goes into creating and operating a puppet character. Like the Disney animation documentary Frank and Ollie, this movie will give you a much bigger respect for these performers.
While it isn’t mentioned in the film, Clash also played Splinter in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies, Baby Sinclair on the Henson-produced television show Dinosaurs, and various other Muppet characters on television and movies. Clash is also now directing episodes of Sesame Street and spin-off specials.
After watching the first several minutes of Constance Marks’ documentary Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey, I realized I could watch an entire movie of just Elmo giving people hugs. But the heartwarming story of Elmo’s puppeteer Kevin Clash is also good. The movie doesn’t have much in the way of conflict, but it provides a great narrative of a man who pursued his life-long dream as well as a fascinating look inside the world of puppetry. While younger viewers may be a bit disappointed that Elmo isn’t the dominate figure in the movie, all audiences will be won over by Clash and how he made his dream come true.

Everyone knows and loves the popular Seasme Street character Elmo, but few are aware of his puppeteer, Kevin Clash. The documentary tells how Clash grew from humble origins in Baltimore and loved the escapism that shows like Captain Kangaroo and Sesame Street provided. He was so taken by puppets that he decided to turn his father’s fur coat into one. To his parents’ eternal credit, they only scolded him for not asking permission first. The movie then follows Clash’s career doing puppet shows for local kids, his introduction and tutoring under Jim Henson’s chief muppet engineer, landing jobs on two kids TV shows, working on Henson’s Labyrinth, and finally taking over the role of Elmo.
Stories tend to run on conflict, but they don’t always have to. Being Elmo wouldn’t be any more rewarding if it turned out that Clash had beaten drug addiction or had some other demon in his past. Clash’s tale appeals to our desire to see through-lines in an individual’s life. When post people are expected to have multiple careers over the course of their lifetime, it’s uplifting to see someone who knew what he wanted to do when he was a kid and found a way to do it. So many of us watched and loved Seasme Street but Clash never “grew out of it”. He found not only the world Sesame Street magical, but the show made him curious about the art of puppetry.
The film does a great job of showing that puppetry is much harder than it looks. Marks follows Clash to France where he’s teaching puppeteers how to handle the muppets. Things you would never think to consider five finger shoes , like “What’s the best way for Elmo to scratch his head” or “How should the mouth move when the muppet speaks,” turn out to be far more complex than previous thought. Audiences who see this film will leave with not only an appreciation of Clash but for the amount of work puppetry requires.
Being Elmo isn’t a complex movie. It’s not even a visually consistent movie as the interviews with Clash, which were done over a six year span, sometimes have him looking directly into the camera to answer a question and sometimes looking at the off-screen interviewer. But that doesn’t matter because it excels at what it sets out to do: tell a real-life inspirational story about the man behind one of the most beloved characters in the world. The result is the cinematic equivalent of a great big hug.

In the weeks leading up to quite possibly the most anticipated movie of the summer (although the Boy Magician – Harry Potter – will surely give it a run for its money), Transformers Dark of the Moon has characteristically released tidbit-after-tidbit of its plot. The much-maligned franchise has failed to successfully do this in four years, since the blockbuster Transformers 2007 live-action film, as Revenge of the Fallen was a cinematic dessert (as the box-office numbers cab attest), although insubstantial from a literary point-of-view. Fans nationwide are primed with anticipation, if only out of the accurate reasoning that the third movie cannot possibly be any worse than the 2nd.
With all that said, since the Writers Strike excuse that was used for the paucity and lack-of-focus of Revenge of the Fallen (surely they could have gotten a fan to write the plot, right? It would have been better than what they ended up with) is no more, what can we expect Dark of the Moon to be about? It is clear they have picked a good element around which to revolve it; the space-race between the US and USSR gets max points just for its significance alone. The revelation in the most recent batch of post-Superbowl Transformers commercials that human beings might have sided with the Decepticons does one of the best things an action film can do for the audience: post them strongly on one side over another side. Do not be surprised if the audience is rooting only for the Autobots, and the only humans that get any love whatsoever are Sam and girl! Especially when the trailers seem to suggest that the human government, or some elements of it cheap coach purses outlet , knew of the Decepticons long before the general public, and sought to use them for personal reasons, which pretty much sums up human history.
The introduction of a new villain, Shockwave, also leaves us wondering what role – if any – Megatron will play in Dark of the Moon.
